About the event

Purpose of the event

To help young people, freelancers, workers and small businesses in Kenya and across Africa use artificial intelligence to earn a living safely, by connecting them with AI and digital-skills providers, online work platforms, tech companies, development partners and digital-safety experts. The session turns the conversation into real introductions.

Objectives

1. Show practical, low-cost ways to use AI tools to find work, serve clients and run a small business. 2. Highlight the AI and digital skills in demand, and where to learn them, including free and subsidised programmes. 3. Explain how to spot and avoid AI-enabled scams, deepfakes and misinformation, and how to use AI safely and responsibly. 4. Connect job seekers, freelancers and SMEs with skills providers, online work platforms, tech companies and funders. 5. Advance SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) and SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure).

Background

AI tools are now available on any smartphone, and Kenya has one of Africa's largest communities of online workers. Used well, AI can help people earn more and run businesses better; used badly, it fuels scams, deepfakes and job fears. Most people have not had the chance to learn how to use it safely and profitably. This session brings the people who need that knowledge and the people who provide it into one room.

Expected outcomes

Consented matchmaking introductions between job seekers, freelancers, small businesses, skills providers, online work platforms and tech companies, sent within five working days; a practical starter list of AI tools and a safety checklist; and a recording and short summary shared with every registrant.

Target audience

Young people, students and graduates, freelancers and online workers, small businesses and creatives, employers and HR teams, AI and digital-skills providers, online work platforms, tech companies, development partners and the public, in Kenya and across Africa.

Welcome message

Welcome notes

From: Events & Communications Lead, Events by Cara

Karibu, and welcome. Artificial intelligence is already changing how people in Kenya and across Africa work, learn and do business. For some it is opening new ways to earn; for others it raises fears about jobs, scams and fake content. This session focuses on what you can do: use AI tools to earn and grow a business, build the skills employers and clients are paying for, and protect yourself and your family from AI scams and deepfakes.

You will hear from global and local partners, tech companies, online work platforms, skills providers and people already earning with AI, and you will leave with introductions to people who can help you act. There will be time for your own questions to the panel. We look forward to welcoming you, and to a conversation that leads somewhere.
