Delete your Karibu by Cara account

You can ask us to delete your Karibu by Cara account at any time. There is no button to press in the app — send us one email and we handle the rest. The whole request takes three steps.

How to delete your account

    Email us from your account email address

    Send an email to privacy@cara.co.ke from the email address on your Karibu by Cara account, with the subject line “Delete my account”.

    Say whether your event registrations should go too

    Tell us whether you also want your event registration records removed. If you registered for events hosted by other organisers, say so and we will pass the request to them.
  3. 3

    We confirm by email and finish within 30 days

    We reply to that address to confirm we have received the request, then complete the deletion within 30 days and email you when it is done.

What is deleted

Once your account is deleted we remove:

  • Your account profile: name, email address, phone number, company or organization, job title and profile photo.
  • Your networking and B2B matchmaking profile, including your meeting messages and meeting requests.
  • Your push notification tokens, so the app and website can no longer send notifications to your devices.

What may be kept, and for how long

A small number of records cannot be deleted immediately because the law requires us or the event organiser to keep them.

  • Payment and transaction records (invoices, receipts and payment references) required by Kenyan tax law are kept for up to 7 years after the transaction.
  • Attendance records that an event organiser is legally required to keep are retained by that organiser for the period the law requires.
  • Anonymised statistics — for example the number of delegates at an event — may be retained. These no longer identify you.

Delete some data without deleting your account

You do not have to delete your whole account to remove specific information. Email privacy@cara.co.ke and tell us what you would like removed — for example your profile photo, your matchmaking profile or your marketing emails — and we will delete that and keep the rest of your account active.

Karibu by Cara is certified with Kenya’s Office of the Data Protection Commissioner (ODPC) and handles personal data in line with the Kenya Data Protection Act, 2019. You can also lodge a complaint with the ODPC at any time.
