About the event

Purpose of the event

To help families, informal workers and small businesses in Kenya and across Africa get quality healthcare they can afford, by connecting them with insurers, clinics, pharmacies, health-tech platforms, development partners and community health programmes. The session turns the conversation into real introductions.

Objectives

1. Explain the practical options for paying for care: public cover such as SHA, private and micro-insurance, medical savings and employer schemes. 2. Show affordable ways to get care: primary care networks, telemedicine, community health promoters, generic medicines and preventive care. 3. Connect households, informal workers and small employers with insurers, clinics, health-tech providers and funders. 4. Advance SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being) and SDG 1 (No Poverty).

Background

Many Kenyan households pay for healthcare out of their own pockets, and a single illness can push a family into debt or close a small business. Cover and affordable care options exist, but many people do not know how to use them or cannot reach them. This session brings both sides into one room.

Expected outcomes

Consented matchmaking introductions between families, informal workers, employers, insurers, clinics and health-tech providers, sent within five working days; clear next steps for getting covered and finding affordable care; and a recording and short summary shared with every registrant.

Target audience

Families and households, informal and gig workers, small business owners and employers, insurers and micro-insurers, clinics and pharmacies, health-tech platforms, community health programmes, development partners and the public, in Kenya and across Africa.

Welcome message

Welcome notes

From: Events & Communications Lead, Events by Cara

Karibu, and welcome. This session turns to a worry every Kenyan family knows: what happens when someone falls sick and the bill arrives. One hospital stay can wipe out years of savings or end a small business. During the session, you will hear from global and local health partners, insurers, clinics, health-tech platforms and community health programmes about practical ways to get quality care without going broke, and you will leave with introductions to people who can help you act.

There will be time for your own questions to the panel. We look forward to welcoming you, and to a conversation that leads somewhere.
